LIVING LESSONS
“He MAKES Me Lie Down in Green Pastures"¹

CHAPTER ONE: Just Laugh It Off
Believe it or not, every teen I’ve ever met is carrying way more stress than they let on. You might not walk around talking about it, but it’s there—that weird heaviness in your chest or the background noise of worry in your head. You probably find yourself asking in those quiet, 2 a.m. moments, "Why does everything hit me so hard?"
This first chapter is actually the answer to that. Before we even dive into things like who you are, your friends, or your future, we’re starting with something the Lord Himself does: He laughs. God isn’t shaken. He isn’t stressed out or replaying conversations in His head wondering where He messed up. He sees the finish line, and He knows it’s going to be okay, even when you feel like it’s falling apart. Because He sees the big picture, He’s inviting you to live with that same kind of "lightness." But usually, to get to that place, you have to walk through some moments that really test you.
When "Small" Things Feel Massive
A while back, I had some guests staying at my place. At first, everything was great—lots of easy conversation and good vibes. Then, out of nowhere, the mood just shifted. Their attitude changed, they got quiet, and before I could even figure out what I’d done, they packed up and left.
If you’ve ever had a friend suddenly stop texting you, or seen a group chat go quiet the second you join, you know that exact pit-in-your-stomach feeling. My brain immediately went into overdrive: What did I say? Was it that joke? Is it my fault? I replayed every tiny detail until I felt physically sick.
Finally, I just had to step away and ask, "Lord, what is going on? What did I do wrong?"
He answered me so clearly: "Nothing. This isn't about you."
Dealing with the "Lies"
Even after God told me the truth, those crappy feelings didn't just vanish. The enemy knows exactly where to poke at you—right in your insecurities. He whispers things like, "You always mess up" or "They left because of you." Suddenly, stuff I thought I’d moved past years ago came rushing back. But the Lord kept repeating: "It’s not about you. Shake it off." Then, He gave me a mental picture that changed everything—it felt like something straight out of an action movie.
The "Malta Moment"
I pictured the Apostle Paul right after a literal shipwreck. He’s on this island called Malta, just trying to stay warm, and as he’s picking up sticks for a fire, a venomous snake jumps out and latches onto his arm.
Now, normally, this is where people scream and panic. This snake was deadly. But Paul didn't have a meltdown. He didn't even stop what he was doing. He just shook the snake off into the fire like he was brushing a piece of lint off his shirt. He stayed steady.
The Lord showed me: That’s how you handle the "snakes" of fear, guilt, or overthinking. You shake them off before the poison has a chance to sink in. No drama, no spiraling—just a quick "nope" and you move on.
Choosing to be Unshakable
From that day on, I made a choice. I decided to laugh at the future instead of being terrified of it. I decided to trust what God says about me more than I trust my own "feelings" of the moment.
The more I practiced this, the lighter I felt. Life didn't necessarily get easier, but God stayed bigger. This journey isn't about becoming "perfect" or fixing yourself until you’re "good enough." It’s actually the opposite. It’s about realizing that the places where you feel the weakest—the parts of yourself you usually try to hide—are exactly where God’s strength shows up the most.
So, are you ready? Let’s shake off the snakes, learn to laugh with Heaven, and start living the life He’s been waiting to grow in you.
